What do you do when your children have grown up and flown the nest? For some parents, it’s a time to spread their wings after the intense parenting years, but for others there’s still a desire to have young people around to nurture and look after.

Rika entered Sutherland Education guardianship in 1992 aged 15. After leaving school in Japan, she started her education in the UK at the City of London Freemen’s School. Before giving up professional roles to raise a family, she worked in UK government for the Department of International Trade and the equivalent Japanese government organisation (JETRO).

Ann Doyle has been involved with Sutherland Education guardianship since 2004. Her introduction was through being a Governor at Bromsgrove School, as well as two local primary schools. She served as a District Councillor for 21 years and has been Chairman of Council. Ann was also a Company Director for a number of years.

With a degree in International Business, Spanish & French, experience in tutoring at A-level, English language teaching in France, hosting international students since 2016, and being a mother of five as well as a course coordinator with the Family Development Foundation (familydevelopment.org.uk), Nathalie proves the saying, if you want something doing, ask a busy person.

Lorna has had over 20 years working with young people in a large secondary school serving as both School Counsellor and Wellbeing Officer. She is well trained in safeguarding and has an OCN qualification in counselling. Lorna has been hosting international students for over ten years and has been a key guardian with Sutherland Education

Anne is a highly skilled Finance Manager with considerable experience working in accounts and administration in local government. She joined Sutherland Education in 2013. After proving to be highly successful academically in her education in Sri Lanka, she went on to gain a Chartered Accountant qualification with specialisms in Financial Management, Business, Maths and Statistics.

Peter, another member of the Sutherland clan, is an expert careers advisor who will consult on many of our Weekend workshop programmes. Peter has a wealth of classroom experience and with his legal background he can challenge young minds as much as he can motivate. He is now fully retired but busy with four grandchildren
