Rika Sturges

Rika entered Sutherland Education guardianship in 1992 aged 15. Having attended schools in Japan and New Zealand, she started her education in the UK at City of London Freemen’s School in Surrey where she completed GCSEs and A-levels. After finishing A-levels, she went to King’s College, University of London where she obtained her first degree in Business Management.

Before giving up professional roles to raise a family, she worked in UK government for the Department of International Trade and the equivalent Japanese government organisation. She also worked on the Japanese equity desk of an American investment bank to enhance links between Japanese companies and overseas investors.

She has two teenage children – a daughter and a son. She is a Japanese language tutor at Whitgift School. Previously, she has also worked as an assistant teacher at pre-prep and primary school levels.

Fully instructed in the safeguarding of children, she has experience in working with children with special needs and adapting to their individual circumstances. She also has a certificate in piano teaching from the Piano Teachers’ Course. She is, in every way, a very special member of our team, bringing her unique experience to the role.
